Day 10 - Celebrate the Light

Today was not an easy day for me.  Let's face it parenting challenges are sometimes difficult.  When you want the best for your children it is hard not to be emotional about it when they seem indifferent.  There are however bright spots in my days in dealing with my children.  When I see them doing good in the world a light shines.  When they worship at church a beacon is built.  When they are polite a ray of light penetrates the darkness. When they pray a light from heaven shines on them.  Today is a day that I was able to share with my son in his accomplishment of something great. Last week my little one brought home a report card with straight A's on it (again).  We made a deal with our kids that if they brought straight A's home they could earn something like a video game a book or basically something that they wanted.  The video games these kids buy usually cost about $49.99 so I proposed a deal to my son.  I said, "You don't have to have a video game you know? You may have $50 in cash and you can buy whatever you want with it (within reason of course) or you can save it and build some money up and buy yourself something big.  Well he's little and he decided he didn't want to save it but instead of a video game he wanted a bike.  Today with much pomp and a speech I gave my son a bike.  I said something like this, "Come my son in whom I am well pleased.  Come and enjoy thy gift that I have prepared for you since the beginning of last semester.  Come and enjoy thy reward my good and faithful son."

Jonah's New Bike*

His eyes shined and his ears perked up as I rolled the bike in.  He had his back to me as I started the speech and when he heard me he turned and his smile was worth more than all the money in the world.  Do you think God wants to reward us in the same way when we do right by him?  Are we going to be found faithful in what we do and say?  Does God feel the joy in his children the way I feel it when mine do right?  I want to hear God give me a speech similar to the one I gave my son someday.  When we do well I believe God celebrates us.  I believe he celebrates his creation.  Today I celebrated my son and I feel so glad that my son obeyed, he worked hard, and he met the requirements to receive his gift but I must celebrate all the more for the free gift I was given because of what Christ did for me on the cross.  He was the good and faithful son and yet I get the gift. Thank you Lord for the blessings you have given me because of your son and thank you for a son that I can be thankful for and whom I can say of:  well done good and faithful servant, come enjoy your reward.

*not the actual bike or an actual picture of said bike but merely an almost exact representation of the bike for illustration purposes only.  Yes my son did get a bike and it is almost exactly like this one but my phone was dead and I couldn't take a picture of the real one.
